3 Mile Lake

3 Mile Lake (Google calls it Spring Bayou) is a large marsh area on the backside of Matagorda beach. This is a good area for birding and fishing. It is accessed from the Beach but typically requires a 4×4 vehicle.

Getting There:

You will need a 4×4 vehicle in order to drive to this site. MAC can provide shuttle service if you do not have a 4×4. From Matagorda head south on FM 2031 over the bridge. Drive past all the houses then take a left on Dunes Road. There will be a sign that says “Public Beach Access”. Dunes road will dead end onto the beach. Take a left and drive approximately 1 mile and you should see 3 Mile Cut open up to your left. Drive toward the cut. This will lead you back behind the dunes and to good access sites. Stay on obvious trails in this area. It is illegal to drive on any vegetation on and behind the beach.

Parking & Facilities

There is plenty of parking on the beach and next to 3 Mile Lake. There are no other facilities.

Can anyone give me an update on beach conditions, I was planning I’m going down PINS for a fishing trip this weekend but am concerned about the coastal flood advisory....now I’m considering going to Matagorda beach or Freeport...I appreciate any info...plan to arrive Friday morning and stay through Sunday morning

How long will it be like this?

Very beautiful but high tides... timing is everything.
