St. Mary’s Bayou

St. Mary’s Bayou is a large marsh area. You can spend all day exploring here. This is a great site for birding & fishing. When the winds are high, this is a good site to paddle as there is some protection from the wind. Take a GPS as it is easy to get lost in the maze of bayous.

Getting There:

From Matagorda head south on FM 2031 across the bridge. The trailhead is on the east side of the roadĀ just past Snapper’s Restaurant and Bar.
Coordinates: 28.66398, -95.96236

Parking & Facilities:

There are no bathroom or other facilities at this site. Park on the west side of the road on the shoulder and do not block any driveway entrances.

Great information!

Just curious why the city does not work on the public entry to the beach so vehicles can get in. We are staying in a house with beach access but want to drive the beach. We do not have a 4x4. We visit here twice a year and its always a toss up whether we can drive on the beach or not.

Thanks for the report

Always a great event if you are in town for Thanksgiving.
