Oyster Lake Park

Oyster Lake park is a small park at the end of Oyster Lake Road. It provides access to fish West Matagorda Bay and Oyster Lake. It is also one of the sites on The Great Texas Birding Trail. There are no amenities, but camping is allowed. Currents can be swift in the channel especially on a falling tide. The road to get there is passable by any vehicle but it is rough and you will be travelling very slowly on  the county road. This is a good spot to fish the shoreline or launch a kayak to fish Oyster Lake. Be cautious if you plan to fish Oyster Lake by boat. It is very shallow and it is named “Oyster Lake” for a reason. There is no usage fee at the park.

Getting There:

The park is located about 9 miles south of the town of Collegeport and approximately 15 miles south of the intersection of FM521 and FM1095. From Matagorda, take hwy 60 north to FM 521. Take a left and head west to FM1095. Take a left and go south to County Road 365. Continue south on 365 until you cross the brigde. The road will dead end into the park.
Coordinates:28.61255, -96.21402

Parking & Facilities:

There is a small strip of parking on the beach at this site. There are no facilities.

High Tide Warning! We are experiencing 16mph onshore winds in Matagorda today. The tide is already high. The forecast for tomorrow is for 35+MPH winds which we expect will drive the tide even higher than today. It is possible the tide will push all the way to the dunes overnight and tomorrow. We recommend you pay close attention to the conditions if you plan to head down beach today or Saturday. Be especially careful if you plan to camp on the beach overnight. Also the driving conditions are 4x4 only right now. ... See MoreSee Less
