Jetty Park

Jetty Park is a county park where the Colorado River meets the Gulf of Mexico. If you want to access west beach on the other side of the Colorado, paddle up river or fish the shoreline, this is the place. There is a beach on the river side that is great for fishing, or launching a kayak. You can also fish the surf between the jetties. Currents and waves at the mouth of the jetties can be dangerous, so don’t paddle out on a rough day and don’t swim in this area. Also watch out for algae on the rocks, it is very slippery.

Jetty Park can be a dangerous place to swim or wade. There is a no swimming zone starting at the western jetty that extends 400 yards to the east of the pier. Dangerous rip currents and undertows are almost always present in this area and you should never enter the water here. Additionally, currents in the river are variable due to tides. Use caution in this area.

Getting There:

From Matagorda drive south on FM 2031 across the bridge. Drive all the way to the end of FM 2031 where it dead ends into Jetty Park.
Coordinates: 28.5947877,-95.979953

Parking & facilities:

There is paved parking in the parking lot and parking on the beach. There are bathrooms, covered picnic tables and trash cans. Camping is allowed. There is no usage fee for Jetty Park.

High Tide Warning! We are experiencing 16mph onshore winds in Matagorda today. The tide is already high. The forecast for tomorrow is for 35+MPH winds which we expect will drive the tide even higher than today. It is possible the tide will push all the way to the dunes overnight and tomorrow. We recommend you pay close attention to the conditions if you plan to head down beach today or Saturday. Be especially careful if you plan to camp on the beach overnight. Also the driving conditions are 4x4 only right now. ... See MoreSee Less
