Parker’s Cut

Parker’s Cut is a great place for fishing, birding or just a peaceful paddle. Put in on the Colorado River near the LCRA sign. Make a short paddle across the river to the earth dam in Parker’s Cut. Stay to the left of the fence as this provides the easiest path for portaging your kayak, but you can portage on either side of the fence. The portage is approx 500ft to the bayous of West Bay.Β  Watch out for rattlesnakes during the portage. Use your paddle to poke around in the grass ahead of you to keep from stepping on one.

Getting There:

From Matagorda drive south on FM 2031 across the bridge. Go past all the houses on the Colorado River. Shortly you will see a pull off on the side of the road just in front of the blue Matagorda LCRA sign.

shore and call or wave for help.

You do realize it’s humans who visit and leave their trash that is the problem? If we all did our part and not be so trashy - leave it better than you found it - then we wouldn’t have such a big problem.

Trash on Matagorda East and West shoreline is a TEXAS problem not a Matagorda problem. Due to the natural parabolic shape of Texas and Matagordas location the trash along its shore is majority offshore trash carried by current. It comes from across Gulf Coast upstream rivers, streams, oil platforms, ships, boats, and a minority of beach goers. Yes it needs to be picked up but it’s a Texas problem not Matagordas. There are many solutions to trash clean up for both the isolated shores of West Matagorda and the popular shores of East Matagorda island. I hope this visual can help everyone understand Texas Trash on shores around Matagorda

Why not teach how to get out of a rip? If you get caught in one ...swim out with it or float the best you can till the current isn’t pulling on you then you can swim too one side and in to shore. FLOATING is best, save your energy! Wave for help! Stay calm and save energy.

Probably Covid19 floating around in there too

How does any of these comments pertain to a rip tide caution!! If the beach is nasty in your opinion... THEN STAY HOME!! UNREAL.

Is there still a rip current today?

IT'S disrespectful people. City People. If you're not from the County you shouldn't be allowed on our Beautiful Beach. Send them to Galveston.

Don't call Sheriff's Department they won't show. IT'S BULLSHIT.

That's terrible

Not to mention the high fecal matter reported at jetty park.

Just like satellite signals that fall anywhere along the dish eventually all signals gravitate to the focus in the middle, Matagorda has the majority of the debris in Gulf falling on the islands shore. To expect the small county of Matagorda to shoulder the burden of its cleanup is unrealistic. Many options for cleanup is possible. An interesting solution is one being used on South Padre beach where each access has a paid sanitation truck that issues each beach goer a large bag for $5 to place their trash or trash that is picked up to fill the bag. Upon departure if the bag is full the $5 is refunded and deposited into the sanitation truck for removal. This is in addition to the beach pass. Our best resources are all of us Beach goers. This is only one option to solving the problem to beach trash πŸ—‘ We must all remember that Matagorda residents are extremely busy providing excellent services to visitors from emergency response to merchants suppling the goods we need. Texas beach maintenance is all of our responsibility 🐠🧜🏻‍β™€οΈπŸŸπŸ¬See previous comment with Texas map for more info

The beach is disgusting. I don’t understand why we pay for a permit when the sand and road way part is horrible. Trash Then we have the public cleaning it up.?? Way to take our money... Smdh

I went yesterday and caught a lot of whiting and a legal size red. Wade fishing In between the bank and first sand bar. No weight only free floating. Had a blast. 😊

Didn’t know I could ride bike on beach. I’m coming tomorrow morning

Remember to pick up your trash and take it with you. Saw a couple people let plastic wrappers blow off in the wind. Always leave things better than you find them. Leave only your footprints in the sand.

Are 4 wheelers allowed on the beach?

900 cfu bacteria levels atm. How serious should we take that?

Should have never closed the beach in the first place.

You can take four wheelers / dirt bikes on that Beach

Are there any rv campgrounds in the area allowing overnight camping? I know LCRA isn’t and State Parks aren’t. We can overnight in a motorhome on the beach, right? I would prefer somewhere with hookups though. Thanks

Be there this weekend πŸ™‚

Came in last night! Teaching remotely from our RV... then hitting the beach! 😎
