Parker’s Cut

Parker’s Cut is a great place for fishing, birding or just a peaceful paddle. Put in on the Colorado River near the LCRA sign. Make a short paddle across the river to the earth dam in Parker’s Cut. Stay to the left of the fence as this provides the easiest path for portaging your kayak, but you can portage on either side of the fence. The portage is approx 500ft to the bayous of West Bay.  Watch out for rattlesnakes during the portage. Use your paddle to poke around in the grass ahead of you to keep from stepping on one.

Getting There:

From Matagorda drive south on FM 2031 across the bridge. Go past all the houses on the Colorado River. Shortly you will see a pull off on the side of the road just in front of the blue Matagorda LCRA sign.
